Since its founding in 1971, the university has focused its teaching and research activities around three core disciplinary areas: arts and humanities, law and political science, and economics and management. Reminder: The awarding of the Lafayette Fellowship is conditional upon admission to one of the eligible partner institutions. Applicants must complete both the Lafayette Fellowship application and apply to one program at one of the partner institutions.
Campus Life
Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University is committed to welcoming international students through dedicated support for orientation and housing provided by its International Relations Department. In 2025, it was awarded the « Bienvenue en France » three-star certification, reflecting the university’s continuous efforts in recent years to enhance the quality of support and experience offered to international students.
Prior to the start of each semester, the university organises Welcome Days for incoming international students, to help them get better acquainted with their new academic environment university through dedicated welcome meetings. Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne is also a member of the Buddy System, a mentoring platform which aims to facilitate support, guidance, and connections between international and local students through a matching system.

With 26 campuses and sites across Paris and its region, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University benefits from a remarkable heritage, both in terms of its buildings and its academic and cultural collections. Originally located in the heart of the Quartier latin, on one of the world’s most renowned university campuses, it occupies, alongside other institutions, a number of prestigious sites, including the Sorbonne, the Centre Panthéon, the Institute of Geography, and the Institute of Art and Archaeology.
Beyond this historic heritage, the university, established following the reorganisation of Parisian universities in the aftermath of 1968, also features more contemporary landmarks, such as the Centre Pierre-Mendès-France, the Centre Saint-Charles and the recently opened Centre La Chapelle.
